Full-Timer vs. Freelancer: Unmasking the Yearly Cost with Stark Bar Graphs.

Alright, startup founder, we are about to journey into the financial wilderness of hiring.

The path is laden with decisions that can make your wallet either sing or sob.

Let’s digress, what’s beneficial for you: Hiring a Full-Time Junior Product Designer OR A Part-time Senior Freelancer.

  • The Yearly Cost:
  • Full-Time Junior: The average salary for a Junior Designer in India is around ₹500,000, but let's upscale this to a really good Junior Product Designer and round it off to about ₹800,000 per annum.
  • Part-time Senior top-tier freelancer: Costs  20-35% more than full-time junior product designer. Approximately, INR 10,00,000 to 13,00,000 per annum.
  • The Output:
  • Full-Time Junior: With a full-time junior on board, you get a fresh mind with possibly innovative ideas but with less experience. They’re like your Netflix subscription, consistent but with limited shows.
  • Part-time Senior Freelancer: A part-time senior freelancer is like a film festival. You get a mix of experience, expertise, and a diverse portfolio but for a limited time.
  • The Quality:
  • Full-Time Junior: The quality of output might be like a rollercoaster, exciting highs with a few daunting lows.
  • Part-time Senior Freelancer: The seasoned freelancer brings a high level of professionalism and quality, ensuring that the output is more like a luxury car ride, smooth and top-notch.
  • Availability & Communication:
  • Full-Time Junior: They are your in-house talent, available during office hours, making communication a breeze.
  • Part-time Senior Freelancer: With a freelancer, you might face the problems with availability of timezones. They are available, but on a different schedule.

This is my insight from helping over 50+ startups hire top design talent.
