If your client is global, your India side needs structure.

An India contractor working with a US, UK, or EU client has a real exposure surface: TDS compliance, GST on services exports, FEMA-compliant inward remittance, IP assignment under Indian contract law, and the misclassification line. Versatile sits between you and your client and runs all of that. You stay focused on the work.

When Versatile fits, contractor side

Multi-client freelancer, recurring engagements

If you have three or more concurrent global clients, the per-client invoicing and TDS reconciliation is real work. Versatile consolidates it into one monthly payout and one Form 16A cycle.

Engagement that could become full-time

Many freelance engagements lead to a full-time offer. Versatile makes the conversion clean: Contractor of Record to Employer of Record in one transition, UAN continuity preserved if you have prior PF history.

Senior consultant, retainer model

Monthly retainer engagements have specific tax treatment in India (Section 194J professional fees TDS). Versatile structures the agreement and the withholding correctly.

You want USD payment, INR bank account

Versatile invoices your client in USD, receives the USD wire, converts to INR at the Reserve Bank reference rate, and pays your INR bank account directly. No FX markup, no third-party fintech tax.

You want health insurance and group benefits

Solo freelancers in India struggle to buy group-rate health insurance. Versatile contractors get access to the same ICICI Lombard group plan our Employer of Record employees use. Premium-only, no admin fee.

You want to build long-term tax records

For housing loans, business visas, and personal credit, you need clean Form 16A history. Versatile issues Form 16A every quarter, reconciles to Form 26AS, and keeps the documentation audit-ready.

Questions we hear most.

Do I pay anything to Versatile as the contractor?
No. Versatile is paid by your client (typically $19 per contractor per month). You receive 100% of the agreed contract value, converted from USD to INR at the Reserve Bank reference rate. There is no Versatile fee on your side.
Once your client signs the Versatile Master Services Agreement and the contractor agreement is executed, you submit a monthly invoice through our portal. We pay your INR bank account on the last working day of the month. TDS is deducted at the applicable rate (1% for individuals with PAN, 10% for professionals) and the challan is filed.
Yes. The contractor agreement is per-client, but the consolidated tax documentation (Form 16A, TDS reconciliation, GST handling) runs through a single Versatile account. This is the strongest reason to use Versatile if you have three or more concurrent global clients.
Versatile runs a Contractor of Record to Employer of Record transition. The contractor agreement closes. The employment contract opens. UAN continuity is preserved if you had prior PF history. PF/ESIC/gratuity enrolment completes inside the 5-business-day onboarding SLA. Form 16 takes over from Form 16A starting that financial year.
Yes. Services exports to global clients are zero-rated under India GST law if you have a Letter of Undertaking (LUT). Versatile holds the LUT, files GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B monthly, and issues a GST-compliant invoice to the client. You don't need to register for GST personally if your engagement runs through Versatile.
That works for the health insurance and benefits stack only. Insurance, ESOP, equipment, and wellness administration can run on Agent of Record without Versatile being the invoicing party. But the Contractor of Record protection (TDS, GST, misclassification) only applies if Versatile is the contractor counterparty to your client.
Three to five business days from when your client signs the Versatile Master Services Agreement. The contractor agreement is templated and e-signed. Your KYC (Aadhaar, PAN, bank account) is collected through the portal. First invoice can be issued the following month.
