What is a Global Capability Centre (GCC)?
A GCC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a global parent company, operating in India to handle engineering, design, finance, or operations work for the parent. Different from outsourcing because the IP, roadmap, and culture remain with the parent. India hosts 1,800+ GCCs as of 2026, the largest concentration outside the US.
Start on Employer of Record under 25-30 hires. Below that headcount, the all-in cost of running an Indian Private Limited (legal counsel, audit, payroll software, India CFO, Shops & Establishments compliance, GST filing, transfer pricing documentation) is higher than the EOR fee. Above 25-30, the entity starts winning on cost. Versatile walks through the math with you transparently.
The employment contract moves from Versatile (the Employer of Record) to your newly-incorporated Indian entity. UAN continuity is preserved through inter-entity PF transfer filings. Gratuity accrual is handed off via the LIC group gratuity policy assignment. Specialists never see a payroll gap. The transition typically takes 4-6 weeks of preparation and one calendar day of cutover.
Yes. Our Managed Payroll product is exactly this: you own the entity, we run the monthly payroll, PF/ESIC filings, TDS, Form 16, and statutory compliance. $49/month for up to 5 employees, scaling from there. Many GCCs stay on Managed Payroll long after transition because the operational discipline carries over.
BOT is when an external operator (us) builds your India entity, runs its operations, and transfers it to you after a fixed period (typically 2-4 years). It is more expensive than EOR-then-entity but it gives you a fully operational entity on day one. Available as a custom engagement.
Six to ten weeks if you go through the standard MCA SPICe+ form. Faster if you use a specialised India-incorporation legal counsel (we recommend three of them). The entity needs a registered office, two directors (one resident), shareholder declaration, PAN, TAN, GST registration, and Shops & Establishments registration in every operating state.
Bengaluru is the largest cluster (~40% of GCCs). Hyderabad and Pune are major secondary hubs. Chennai, Gurugram, and Mumbai have meaningful GCC presence. Each location has different professional tax rules, different real estate dynamics, and different talent pools. Versatile holds Shops & Establishments registration across nine states for EOR coverage.
We coordinate with three legal counsel partners who specialise in India incorporation. We do not file the incorporation paperwork directly because that is regulated legal work. But we connect you to the right counsel, run the parallel-path EOR engagement, and manage the transition mechanics. The legal counsel fee is separate from the Versatile fee.
